Enabling Your Daughter For The Leadership Roles

Whatever you do, be different – that was the advice my mother gave me, and I can’t think of better advice for an entrepreneur. If you’re different, you will stand out.-Anita Roddick

Why is it that men and women barely have any difference in their levels of intelligence, but less than one-fifth of leadership roles are given to women in India?

Whilst some of this can be blamed on all the years of patriarchal conditioning embedding itself in the minds of people, a huge majority of this is faulted through the fact that men are more likely to ask for a leadership role, rather than a woman even if she knows she has the skills for it.

So, why is this? It all starts when these women were young girls. Many girls in Indian households are hushed and told that it is not necessary to know information ‘that doesn’t concern girls’.

But, girls need to ask questions. And they need to find answers to them. These questions are the key to the door that is stopping them from approaching their boss and asking for a leadership position. These questions, no matter how dumb, help them to develop all the skills, i.e. cognitive thinking and credence, they need to be able to rank highly in a job.

A woman’s future rests within the hands of her parents. Parents, you can create something beautiful just by encouraging your daughter’s questions.
